UIC’s Chi-Tracing Program has collaborated with over 30 community-based organizations to hire, train, and evaluate a corps of 550 community health workers to perform contact tracing for the Chicago Department of Public Health.
Trainees also come from the Mount Sinai Urban Health Institute and Malcolm X College. Through its Citizen Scientists Program, this program seeks to have a lasting effect on public health in Chicago through the training of an indigenous corps of community health workers that can support community interventions in a range of health areas, even after the COVID-19 pandemic recedes.
