The U.S. Clean Power Plan will require Illinois to reduce CO2 emissions significantly before 2030. Instead of future coal-fired power plants, Illinois can build natural gas plants with less CO2 per unit of electricity, or it can invest in renewable technology like solar, geothermal or wind.
