How Will Illinois’ Push for Mail-In Balloting Affect Voter Confidence in the November 2020 Election?

This Policy Spotlight looks at some of the pros and cons of voting by mail as well as voters’ perceptions of it across the country. The authors suggest steps Illinois officials can take to help ensure voter confidence in the November election. 

The Policy Spotlight found that voters are generally confident that their ballots will be properly counted if they vote by mail, but not as confident as they are when they vote at a polling place. In two recent national surveys, voters’ doubts about voting by mail were small, but consistent.
