IGPA will be hosting Alex Bartik to speak about his recently published study about guaranteed basic income. This study was conducted through a nonprofit organization OpenResearch, more about the study can be found here: Unconditional Cash Study | OpenResearch
Alex Bartik is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Research Affiliate of the Poverty Lab at the University of Chicago.
The project studies a randomized experiment in which 1,000 low-income adults in the United States received $1,000 per month for three years, with 2,000 control participants receiving $50 over that same period. The study combines a rare combination of survey data, administrative data (including credit records, UI records, among other sources), biomarkers, and qualitative interviews with participants. This experiment combined with these data provides a unique opportunity to investigate the effects of unconditional cash transfers on a wide array of outcomes, including consumption and balance sheets, labor market outcomes, health inputs and outcomes, and political behavior.
This is a hybrid event offered on Zoom and at IGPA’s Urbana Office at 1007 W Nevada St Urbana, IL 61801. A calendar invitation will be sent after registration.
