IGPA will be hosting Clinical Associate Professor Cris Hughes to speak about her IGPA Research Scholar Initiative: An Evaluation of the Intersection of Illinois State-Funded Agencies and the Native American Graves Protection Act: A Data-Driven Policy Initiative.
Amy Leman holds a Research Scholar Initiative at IGPA, is a Collaborating Scholar on IGPA’s Equity, Justice, and Human Flourishing Working Group, and is a Clinical Associate Professor in thecDepartment of Anthropology at UIUC.
Professor Hughes is a forensic anthropologist interested in perceptions of social race, and the use of biogeographic ancestry in both forensic investigations and the practice of forensic anthropology. She is particularly interested in how information drawn from skeletal remains, can impact the identification process of that person, namely method applications/standardization, casework accuracy, and method outcome interpretations. Additionally, Professor Hughes is the deputy forensic anthropologist for Champaign County Coroner’s Office, and serves the surrounding counties as needed when human skeletal remains are found.
