About

This exciting summit, co-hosted with the University of Illinois Springfield, will bring together scholars, students, observers, and participants in American government to discuss the state of democracy in the present-day United States. Attendees will explore the current state of polarization, including topics such as causes and consequences of polarization; whether the polarization is a top-down or bottom-up phenomenon or both; historical contrasts, and lessons from the past; and how (if) it can be moderated, or, indeed, if the focus on dangers and costs of polarization obscures concomitant benefits.
