IGPA welcomes new senior coordinator of strategic communications

Jamey Dunn-Thomason has joined IGPA as senior coordinator of strategic communications. She will lead all aspects of IGPA’s communications effort, internal and external, actively engaging with IGPA's senior scholars and others to connect IGPA’s work with o lawmakers, policymakers, civic organizations and other public policy groups.

Jamey holds a bachelor’s degree in speech communications from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and a master’s in public affairs reporting from the University of Illinois Springfield. She spent almost five years at the University of Illinois Springfield as a state government reporter for Illinois Issues magazine. She then became executive editor of that publication in 2014 and led it through its transition from a monthly glossy magazine to a digital publication and its merger with WUIS/NPR Illinois. While at Illinois Issues, Jamey worked closely with several IGPA scholars on various projects for the magazine and NPR Illinois. She is passionate about public policy issues and takes pride in translating these often-complex issues into easy-to-digest content.

Since January 2017, Jamey has served as deputy director of communications in the Office of the Illinois Comptroller. In that role, she helped develop the communications strategy that led to successful passage of the Comptroller’s 2018 legislative agenda in its entirety. She also is a member of the Edgar Fellows Class of 2017.
