Political experts to analyze results of Illinois primary at Feb. 4 event

Illinois voters go to the polls on Feb. 2 to select nominees to run in the November general election for governor, United States Senate and other statewide, congressional, and legislative races.

A pair of widely recognized political experts will offer their analysis of the results of this important primary at a luncheon sponsored by IGPA in Springfield two days later.

They will look at the results of the voting, discuss what happened and why, and what we might expect in the general election campaign ahead.

The luncheon is sponsored by(IGPA and the Center for State Policy and Leadership at the University of Illinois Springfield. It will be held at the Inn at 835, 835 South Second Street, and will begin at 11:45 a.m.

Edgar, who was governor of the state from 1991-1999, has been a distinguished fellow at IGPA since shortly after he left office. Yepsen, who wrote about politics for the Des Moines Register for 34 years, is now director of the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

“IGPA and the Center for State Policy and Leadership have sponsored these post-election analyses for several election cycles and they always are informative, enlightening, and entertaining,” said Robert F. Rich, director of IGPA. “We are pleased that Governor Edgar makes it a point to clear his schedule for this event and we are especially delighted that he will be joined this time by David Yepsen, someone who brings a new, but no less astute perspective to how politics plays in Illinois.”

Tickets to the luncheon are $20 and can be purchased online or at the door.
