IGPA faculty honored at State Politics and Policy Conference

IGPA faculty member Nicole Kazee was presented with the first Christopher Z. Mooney Dissertation Award at the State Politics and Policy Conference in Springfield on June 4, 2010.

IGPA faculty members Christopher Z. Mooney and Nicole Kazee were honored by the State Politics and Policy section of the American Political Science Association at the organization's annual conference in Springfield, June 3-5, 2010.

Mooney, jointly appointed as a professor of political science at the University of Illinois Springfield, was honored with the naming of an annual award for best doctoral dissertation in the field of state politics and policy. Mooney was also named UIS' University Scholar for 2010 during the conference.

The first Christopher Z. Mooney Dissertation Award was presented to IGPA faculty member Nicole Kazee. Kazee, jointly appointed as an assistant professor of political science at the University of Illinois at Chicago, received the award for her dissertation "Wal-mart Welfare?: The Role of Low-Wage Employers in American Antipoverty Policy," which was prepared in preparation for her PhD from Yale University in 2009.

Kazee joined IGPA in August 2009.
