Andrew P. Morriss

Andrew P. Morriss joined the IGPA faculty in August 2007. He is the H. Ross and Helen Workman Professor of Law and a professor of Business Administration at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Professor Morriss was accepted in 2008 as a member of the Mont Pelerin Society.  He also is a Research Fellow of the NYU Center for Labor and Employment Law, a Senior Fellow at the Property & Environment Research Center, Bozeman, Montana; a Senior Scholar at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University; a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Energy Research, Houston, Texas, a regular visiting professor at Universidad Francisco Marroquín, in Guatemala, and a frequent lecturer for the Fund for American Studies’ programs in Hong Kong and Crete.

Dr. Morriss’ primary research interest is in understanding the economic impact of regulatory policy decisions and using economic analysis to explain why particular regulations are written the way they are. He is the author or coauthor of more than 40 book chapters and scholarly articles regarding these and related topics.

Professor Morriss believes IGPA allows him the opportunity to influence policy decisions.

“Doing research is not enough,” he says. “Academic research needs to reach policy makers to make a difference. IGPA offers me the chance to reach policymakers in Illinois and nationally and to contribute to improving public policy.”

Andrew Morriss received his A.B. degree from Princeton University, his J.D. and a master’s degree in public affairs from The University of Texas at Austin, and his Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After law school he clerked for U.S. District Judge Barefoot Sanders in the Northern District of Texas and worked for two years at Texas Rural Legal Aid in Hereford and Plainview, Texas.
