  • Illinois Economic Review shows state losing 24,000 jobs per month in '09

    Illinois has lost an average of nearly 24,000 jobs per month through the first eight months of 2009, according to the Illinois Economic Review. The review, which is produced by the Regional Economics Applications Laboratory, says the loss rate for September was on par with the rest of the Midwest and the nation as a whole.

  • Illinois Economic Review: Job losses fewer in Illinois during June

    The number of jobs lost in Illinois during June was less than previous months, but the losses continue to mount and have now reached 268,000 since September 2008, according to the Illinois Economic Review. The review of the state's employment picture is compiled by IGPA economist Geoffrey Hewings and the Regional Economic Applications Laboratory at the U of I. Read the latest review.

  • Illinois Economic Review for May shows job losses continue to mount in Illinois

    The Illinois economy lost another 17,400 jobs in May, according to the Illinois Economic Review. The monthly tracking  by the Regional Economic Applications Laboratory and IGPA economist Geoffrey Hewings shows the state has dropped more than 200,000 jobs since last September.   • Economic Review: Illinois job losses reach 250,000 since September 2008

    Illinois has now lost over a quarter of a million jobs since September 2008, according to the Illinois Economic Review. The review, produced by the Regional Economic Applications Laboratory and IGPA, finds 23,100 jobs were lost in April, almost 17,000 fewer jobs than were lost in March.

  • Economic Review: Illinois employment lower than low point of 2001-2003 recession

    Employment in Illinois at the end of March 2009 was 5.744 million, below the lowest point in the 2001-2003 recession (it was 5.789 million in Nov 2003). That is almost the same as it was in March 1997 (5.748 million), while the employment levels in the Rest of the Midwest matches that of April 1996 while for the U.S. as a whole the current level matches that for April 2005.
